About Our Council

The Knights of Columbus first came to Our Lady of the Rosary Parish with the formation of Our Lady’s Council #9249 serving Davidson County.  The council was chartered in March 1986 and served the parishes of Our Lady of the Highways Parish in Thomasville and Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Lexington.  The charter Grand Knight was Al Pierce and Fr. Joseph Schaefer, OSFS served as charter chaplain.  Council By-Laws were established in September 1987 under the leadership of Ed Morovich who later entered the permanent deaconate and served Our Lady of the Rosary Parish as its deacon.

During 1999 it was decided to form a new council in Davidson County such that a council would have full presence at each of the county’s parishes.  Under the guidance of District Deputy Ed Campbell, a new council was formed in Lexington.  The St. Francis de Sales Council was chartered on June 9, 1999 with Chris Joss serving as the charter Grand Knight and Fr. Al Gondek, OSFS serving as the council’s Chaplain.  The council’s name was chosen to honor the many men belonging to the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales who had faithfully served its parish as pastor.

The council has placed significant emphasis and energy on activities serving the Our Lady of the Rosary Parish and community of Lexington.  Ralph and Alice Schwartz lead the Rosary prior to every Saturday afternoon Mass.  Pancake breakfasts have been routinely held, some to benefit the parish and some as fundraisers for the council.  The Council’s efforts helped pay for most of the expenses associated with the new refrigerator and ice maker, which were installed during the renovation of the Rosary Hall.

The community has benefited by the council’s fully participation in Operation LAMB and received an award for its performance for the 2001 program.  The Crisis Ministry’s Homeless Shelter is open September through April and the council mans the shelter on the 30th of every month through the charity of  the knights.
